How do I begin a project with Rayographix?

The best way to begin a project is to view this website for information. Take a look at our price list for sizes, and email us with your print specifications, including image size, trim size and paper type. It is also helpful for us to see the artwork, full resolution and uncompressed, if possible.

For larger files you can transfer your images here.

2-3 days typically, but printing can be expedited in as a little as a few hours when needed.

3

How long do archival pigment digital prints last?

According to Wilhelm Research, archival pigment digital prints last about 85-100 years. It does depend on how the prints are displayed. Using UV glass in a frame will prolong fading and not framing at all will induce fading faster.

How do I care for my digital prints?

While it is ok to transport prints rolled up in tubes, it is best to store prints flat. When handling prints, it is best not to touch or rub on the inked surface. Pigment sits on top of the paper and can scratch easily if touched. Glassine is provided as a courtesy to prevent scratches and dust.

5

How should I prepare my files?

Digital printing requires RGB files, (as opposed to offset printing that requires CMYK). Adobe RGB is the best profile. While it is possible to print from almost any format, files print best not compressed such as TIF or PSD.

6

What type of paper do you use?

Papers have been curated over the years down to 2 makers, Canson and Hahnemuehle. We have the found the most consistency from these two manufactures. Hahnemuehle papers are all matte ranging from very rough texture to ultrasmooth, all heavyweight, acid-free rag papers. Canson papers are all photo papers, including one heavy weight rag luster and Photo RC Satin or Gloss.

7

Will I see a proof before printing?

We always look at proofs before printing final artwork. If you live in the area you can pop in for a proof or it can be mailed to your door. It just adds an extra step when shipping.

8

What is Archival Pigment Printing?

Archival Pigment Prints are inkjet prints printed with pigment Ultrachrome Inks paired with acid free archival papers.

9

Is Archival Pigment Printing the same as Giclee?

Giclée is a french term for “spits ink” and was used in the earliest days of digital printing to give more panache to the archival inkjet process. But yes, they are the same thing.
